![]() ![]() The sun is this diffuse blot and the air that you’re breathing in, the whole ecological bubble you are in, feels hostile to your sense of sustenance. “This fabric of greyness, this mood, this tone, where the sky and the clouds and the buildings just sort of mesh into each other has fascinated me for some time. “Anyone who lives in Delhi knows that you are constantly surrounded by this grey sensorium,” says the film’s director, Shaunak Sen. Much of that is to do with the Indian capital’s role in the film: a scruffy, belligerent character, integral to the story. The events depicted are less important than the overall feeling. It is not a wildlife documentary, nor a table thumping call to action it is not a family drama nor a political film – and yet it contains elements of all these, woven into a poetic and beautiful tapestry. After winning the world cinema grand jury prize at the Sundance film festival this year it is screening at Cannes, and in many ways it is easier to say what it is not than to define what it is. Prey is available to watch now on Netflix. The award-winning documentary All That Breathes is a meditation on life in Delhi through the eyes and hands of two brothers that nurse injured birds back to health. It's unlikely we'll get a follow-up to find out, so make up your own mind if you want Albert to survive or not. Roman, understandably, breathes a sigh of relief as Prey ends, but it's unclear whether his brother survived. Eva then, for some reason, decides to walk off the cliff, killing herself. Roman manages to wrestle the gun away from Eva, but instead of shooting her, he throws it away. He distracts her with a unicorn toy they found in the forest (which belonged to Anne) and fights with Eva. ![]() Instead of leaving Albert to die in the forest though, Roman drags him to safety and goes to confront Eva. It seems the two hooked up on Roman and Lisa's holiday when Albert dropped by, and have continued the affair ever since. She kills Peter shortly after and the flashbacks are solved when Roman finds a naked photo of Lisa on Albert's phone with the message: "Can't wait to see you, Albert! Say hi to your brother." Roman and co didn't do anything to Eva – they just chose the wrong place for a stag weekend. Albert's shin injury (which he sustained earlier in the movie) is getting worse and Peter wants to just leave him somewhere, returning later when they get police help, but Roman refuses. Roman, Albert and Peter head back into the wilderness where Peter clashes with Roman over his brother. Weirdly though, when she sees the three of them shortly after, she doesn't kill them. However, before they can explain what's happening, Eva catches up with them, kills the shop worker, and then finishes off Vincent too with a shot to the neck. ![]() They come upon a shop in the national park where they've been hiking and manage to contact the police. Peter wants them to split up as she can't chase them in four different directions, yet he's outvoted and they stick together. The problem for the rest of them is that Stefan was the only person who knew his way around the forest, so they manage to escape, but are split on what to do next. Stefan approaches her, hoping she'll be able to help, only for her to turn around and fatally shoot him. While the group originally assumes it's a man hunting them, they find out to a deadly cost that they're mistaken when they spot Eva by a lake.
